Ten.One Thousand, Nine Hundred & Sixty-Four

  1. Of course, I am up before the alarm on a day I don’t need to be. But I will take the extra time, the extra quiet.

  2. Hard-boiled eggs. Four of them. Maldon salt and smoked paprika. One glass of orange juice. Two pints of water. Deciding whether or not it would be a good idea for me to go back to my half-hot-water-half-coffee.

  3. I just want things to feel easy again.

  4. Hard to watch, but nowhere else I’d rather be.

  5. I keep adding books to my stack as if I am going to be gone much longer than 36 hours. I’ll barely be gone for 24. But I add books to the stack anyway.

  6. I should wear these sweatpants more often.

  7. It is closer than I remembered. No one is talking. Not really. Mt. St. Helena is shrouded in fog.

  8. I lay on the bed and finish the book. The first one I’ve read from start to finish so far this year.

  9. I realize that I no longer feel the need to prove that I know what I know. How would Mistress put it? “I’m in my Confidence Era.”

  10. I take the Saint-Aubin to bed but lose my nose ring, so I have mixed feelings about this night.
